I teach in a continuation high school for students who, for varying reasons, need more than what the comprehensive high schools in the district may offer. Often, their classes have failed to connect to these students with the standard curriculum delivered in the traditional setting.
Even so, my students are strong and resilient and continue to work toward a high school diploma. The reduced class sizes, one-on-one support, and curriculum responsive to their needs and interests reinvigorate their desire to learn and complete their high school education. They are truly remarkable young people and, given the opportunity to learn in a way beyond simple standardization, will do amazing things.
