I teach 29 energetic, eager to learn third graders. They come from: Kurdistan, India, China, Japan, France, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Haiti, and the United States. About 30% of my students fall below the poverty line. Over half of my class is in the process of learning English as a second language. Additionally, due to budget cuts our school district recently raised class sizes from 20 to 30 students per class. At the same time, these children came to me with a deep respect for each other, and a love of school.
