The butterfly population is decreasing to dangerous levels and our kindergarten and first grade Huskies want to help, so we are starting a Butterfly Rescue Garden. The Ðǿմ«Ã½ grant will cover the start-up materials costs of the planter beds, soil, and other materials. The garden will be located in an area adjacent to the kindergarten and first-grade classrooms. It receives ample year-round watering through the school’s irrigation system.
We are planning to germinate milkweed and flower seeds, then transplant the seedlings to the planter boxes to create conditions in which butterflies can thrive in order to restore their population.
This hands-on project will create an engaging way for students to learn about the life cycle of plants and butterflies. This Husky Butterfly Rescue Garden will serve as a legacy for future classes to enjoy and build upon each year.
