A large part of our morning involves literacy centers. Children need opportunities to read in small groups and in different settings. The various WhisperPhones will encourage students to read aloud, which is so important when they are learning how to read. Centers can be a busy time but the phones will also help to block out background noise so the students can hear every sound and word they say clearly.
The different types of WhisperPhones give my students a way to focus on their reading and listen to their amplified voice. The WhisperPhone Select allows me to carefully monitor each of my students during guided reading. With a turn of the knob I can tune in to one student at a time and offer support without disrupting the other students at the table. The WhisperPhone Duet is a wonderful tool to use for partner reading. Using two phones that are connected by a tube, students can share a text and help each other when they get stuck on a word. The WhisperPhone Solo is a hands-free device that students can use while independently reading. Students can speak into the phone and clearly hear their own voice, while hands are free to turn pages and track words.
This is a unique tool that I would like to add to my centers to pique their interest and enhance their learning in reading. My wish is to inspire all readers, no matter where they are in the learning process.
