I am looking to bring my classroom library into the 21st century, which involves selecting titles written post-2000 and expanding offerings that are diverse and global in nature. Given a variety of popular, current fiction, nonfiction, and graphic titles appropriate for 7th-graders, my students will be exposed to relevant, enjoyable, and engaging content. Improving independent reading and increasing comprehension is goal #1 in my classroom. Having interesting materials for students to choose from will help me to build life-long readers. Who doesn't love opening a new book for the first time and discovering a world they have never visited before?
