The books I am requesting will help create a basis for a reading circle that will inspire students to reach beyond the walls of the classroom to reach for success. We want to create a space students can really enjoy, feel comfortable and focus. The students often want to be at the front of the classroom and love reading in alternate seating methods. The books will become part of the 5th grade classroom curriculum and will be cherished for years to come . We chose to request a class set of books rather than only one so the students can become ensconced in the visual and tactile experiences of text. After we are done reading the book together, the books will remain in the classroom so the students may revisit them and reread pertinent or meaningful sections.
The inspiring story told in this book will help motivate our learners to become even more active in their education, positively involved in their community and encourage personal responsibility. The authors of this book came from the streets of Newark, NJ and chronicle the struggles they faced and the courage, tenacity and focus it took to overcome them. They have lived the life we all dream for our students. We want to take this opportunity to share that vision and hope with them.
