Our school is years into a major reconstruction project, and we have all learned to love our makeshift school environment. But some of the challenges with temporary classrooms can be ensuring that we have all the materials we need in order to thrive.
A classroom library will help brighten up the room, and provide a cozy center for students to become engrossed in their reading!
We'll have a soft rug and some comfy chairs and cushions for free time reading, and plenty of age-appropriate books! We try to have classroom reading time every day, and my students love reading, and learn so much when they do. However, sometimes it is hard for them to find the right books to read. I am so looking forward to having a perfect selection of titles for them, that I know from my experience will be exciting, engaging, and just the right level for this age group. Reading (and loving to read) is such a vital skill, and I determined to do all that I can to develop it in each and every one of my students. The selection of books that I have requested range from historical tales, such as the Horrible Histories series, old favorites like Harry Potter, and newer, more popular books like James Patterson's Middle School and Fablehaven. I'll have something for everyone! I've asked for 2 copies of each books, so that I may assign pairs of students to read and discuss books together. The clipboards we'll use to take notes while we read.
When we do move into the new building, this center will provide a nice continuity for my students, and will help us start "painting" the canvas of our new room!
