This one drum is the first step in my classroom’s journey towards a class set of drums! I would like to build a set of at least twenty drums to provide all students with the opportunity to play as part of a drumming ensemble, but we need to start somewhere. Having a classroom set of drums will give my students the opportunity to experience music through hands-on experiences. Group drumming will improve their ability to focus and listen to others as well as their ability to work in large and small groups.
As my students begin to become musicians through drumming, I know they will be challenged in ways that they have not been challenged before. This, in turn, will build in them greater perseverance, a sense of pride, and greater self-confidence. I can’t wait to see how they grow as musicians and people through drumming experience.
