These supplies and tools will allow my students to design engineering projects that address real-world problems. Students will be able to design and test a battery operated car and a helicopter powered by stored energy as well as other projects. By collaborating and using the engineering design method to learn about applied mechanics they will explore their ideas. Students will iterate their designs using mathematics and science to collect data.
This STEAM project will engage my students as they use critical thinking to solve problems and learn life skills.
It will also provide emotional support for my students as for the past year they have not been able to work with classmates in person because of COVID-19. Learning to work as a team is not easy in the best of times. After a year of online learning, students are struggling. Engaging projects like this will help them adapt as they integrate back into full classrooms and work with diverse personalities.
This project focuses on the Next Generation Science Standard Engineering Design HS-ETS1-2: Design a solution to a complex real-world problem by breaking it down into smaller, more manageable problems that can be solved through engineering.
