I teach 9th grade Early U.S. History and 11th/12th grade Law & Justice. My classroom typically has a great mix of diversity along with students who have various disabilities or do not speak English as a first language. One of my classes is solely for students who have very little English proficiency as they have just arrived in the U.S. from other countries (mainly Haiti & Vietnam).
We are in an urban district with most students from low-income homes. 91% are minority students with 60% identifying as high needs and 20% with disabilities. In addition, over 55% do not speak English as a first language.
