We are requesting ten Singer sewing machines which will allow my students to learn sewing and design skills they can utilize for the rest of their life. Personally, students will be able to take what they learn to create their own clothing and items for their space. Professionally, students will be shown how their creations can generate income.
The sewing machines will be utilized in three different focus areas of the middle school Family and Consumer Science curriculum, including Fashion Design, Interior Design, and the Family, Community, and Leadership unit. Students will learn how to create clothing items and accessories they can wear and utilize in the Fashion Design unit. In the Interior Design unit they will learn how to create pillows, curtains, blankets and other items that can make any space more comfortable. Students will utilize what they learn in these units to give back to their community by creating stuffed animals for children in shelters and in hospitals, and pillowcase dresses and pajamas for children in need of those items.
