This project includes everything that 5th graders will need to build their own terrariums. These terrariums are miniature examples of real world ecosystems. They not only include seeds, soil and containers, but this kit also allows for vouchers to purchase live crickets and fish.
These live animals will not only explain, but give students an up close view of how delicate ecosystems work. My students love to learn through hands on experiments, but do not have access to ponds, rivers or streams nearby. This challenge makes it extremely difficult to build the background knowledge to teach about ecosystems. This project will show how plants and animals interact with one another.
