This is my second year as the Art Teacher in the Newcomer Program at IPS and my 8th year teaching at Newcomer. The Newcomer Program is only one and a half years old. We have been building our art program from the ground up and currently have few of the basic supplies that are needed in order to create art and promote learning. With that being said, we are need of basic supplies for an art classroom such as watercolors, tempera paints, etc. These supplies will help my students produce art, express themselves, and tell their own story as part of the learning process.
My vision is that through painting my students can create art, express themselves and tell their story in the classroom as well as encourage language learning and bridge that barrier to their success.
Painting is a creative and expressive way for students to not only learn, but to express themselves because it's a process- you need to use critical thinking skills and problem solving skills to complete a finished product.
I would love for all their activates to be a positive and inspirational not only for themselves, but for ALL those who look at their works of art. Art in general will give my students a voice that they otherwise would not have.
