Too often, students are issued consequences with the assumption they have the adequate social or self-regulation skills to be successful in a structured environment. My students who struggle behaviorally, socially or emotionally, spend a significant time outside of the classroom. During that time, I have the opportunity to teach them skills that can help them interact with others appropriately. I am also able to practice strategies that can help regulate their feelings so they can problem-solve more easily. I was very purposeful in selecting tools with great reviews or tools I believe will be effective in promoting excellent social and emotional health.
