My school is a small, rural school serving grades 5k - 6th grade. We have approximately 380 students. The majority of our students come from low-income homes. Approximately, eighty-three percent of our students receive free and reduced lunch. Many live in single-parent homes and/or with grandparents. My children are eager to learn but most lack the support of home because parents are working long hours or shift work. Also, many parents lack the knowledge/skills to help their child at home. However, the parents always do their best to help their children succeed.
While my children have several obstacles to overcome, they still work hard and like to challenge themselves. They love competition with each other and competing with themselves. They also love any type of praise and recognition for their accomplishments! They are smart, ambitious and the most caring children I know!
