My fifth grade math class is a group of kids who live in Houston, TX and attend a Title 1 School. 85 percent of the population are at risk and 96% of them receive free/reduce lunch. The group includes Hispanic, African American, Asian, and White students, 49% of the students are male and 51% are female.
120 students will benefit from this project in each of the math blocks or rotations during class activities, and extra rotations for interventions and enrichment from 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.. The majority of the students also participate in the after school program from 3:00 to 4:45 pm., and Saturday tutorials from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
These students are willing to learn throughout diverse experiences to increase their knowledge and improve their performance. They know that daily practice and effort will help them to reach their goals: to be students at Master Grade Level and become future Mathematicians.
