When my project is fully funded, my students will have increased voice and choice in how they meet and where they discuss their work... just like the varied workspaces many adults use to foster creativity and facilitate collaboration.
Students can sit at the high top table and discuss revisions to a writing piece -- as some might at a coffee shop. Other students might sit in a comfy bean bag chair or camping chair by the window to steal a few quiet minutes to read alone. A small group can collaborate together to present an idea using the presentation easel.
Our flexible seating project will not only facilitate collaboration and creativity, but provide ample opportunity for student autonomy allowing students to make decisions about how they learn that they can carry with them in their lives outside the classroom.
