My students consist of mostly immigrant children. I have one ESE classroom, one Gifted, and two general education classroom of mostly ESOL students.
Our school is a Title I school, made up of mostly low income families. Most rent within the community, and mostly come from single family homes. In the past I have only worked with the Gifted children. This year is especially challenging to me due to the diversity of my students. The gifted students in my class have scored extremely well in science throughout my career. Our school decided to allow me to work with the entire 5th grade school population in hopes of waking a love for science in all our students.
I have found a profound need for these students to have someone believe in them. We have worked so hard in teaching them the basics in reading and math, their weaknesses, that they have not explored the world around them. Science and technology has opened up a new path of learning that they are able to succeed in.
