I teach in the largest international academy in the USA - -a public school within a school that serves immigrant students from Central and South America, Africa, Middle East, and South Asia. At any one time, I'll have a classroom filled with kids from rural Guatemala, refugees from the urban gang wars in Honduras, West Africans here for economic reasons, war refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq, Egyptian Christians forced to relocate, and Ethiopians come to join their large expatriate community. How could I possibly teach them? What could they all have in common?
They all believe in the dream that is a vibrant, future United States. Maybe it's not the one we grew up with, but technology makes our country powerful: IPhones, Virtual Reality, Google, Instagram, 3D Printing, Alexa, Youtube, Online Classrooms -- a world without limits.
I use what's new to build well-rounded, future citizens. And they love it.
