I would love a set of classroom novels. My students and I have chosen "The Tiger Rising" as the novel we would like to read together. This novel deals with the tough issues of death, grieving, and the great accompanying sadness, and is an important book for my students.
We like to read novels together as a class, but this can get expensive. When each child has their own novel to read we get to do this together as a group and experience it as one. This makes is easy for me as a teacher to see who may be struggling, and allows me to differentiate for them in the future.
