The books in this project are a mix of fiction and non-fiction with captivating storylines and poignant themes. They explore issues of racism, gender identity, juvenile justice, immigration, and the search for one’s identity. My classroom library is getting somewhat outdated, and I would love the opportunity to update it with diverse young adult titles.
These books will make a difference for my students by serving as windows, mirrors, and doors so that students can see themselves and empathize with others. I have 4 preps, and each group will benefit from these books differently. Some groups will use these books as independent reading. Some will be able to form book clubs with other students who are reading the same title. With smaller classes, we may use the books as read-alouds. In any scenario, my students will be excited to have new choices to enhance their reading lives!
