My class is a buzz of activity with the students cheering for each others' achievements as they work at their own learning rate. My children have ownership of the classroom as they vote for what subject they want to learn about every Friday. Some of the topics chosen last year was counting in 5 language, learning to communicate in ASL, having a true English tea party and learning about all the planets.
The children ask "What is the difference between a hen and a rooster?", "Are cougars and leopards the same?", What is a valley?". I have a choice when they ask. Do I verbally tell them or stop class and have them get in line so they can really see the differences or see the vocabulary word on my computer?
Children need to stay excited and focused on what we are learning. Every time I stop class to show the children something, they lose focus. If I could project the image or video up on the screen, it would take less time and keep the kids focused.
