My students are hard working children who are learning to develop their English language proficiency and at the same time are trying to achieve the same academic goal as their monolingual peers. They love to hear stories in Spanish! All of them are fluent in their native language and enjoy conversing with me and with their Spanish speaking peers. The majority of my students have parents that are able to read to them in Spanish and so they always ask to take a bilingual book home. My students need a lot of academic and language support and their parents know that continuing literacy in their native language is a great way to develop a second language. My school is a title I school 70% of our students receive either free/reduced lunch. We have about 112 students who are identified as language learners.
