There is a fervor growing in our school, and it shines brightly in our classroom as we move into a new school year. One of my goals is to help develop a culture of professional students who can achieve their goals and contribute to a community of learners as reinforced by our school motto, "I CAN."
In my fifth year of teaching, I have the opportunity to teach literacy and social studies to the incoming fifth grade class. The majority of my students come from low-income households. Many students are first generation English language learners, and many will be the first in their family to go to college. Though my students face many obstacles in their daily lives, they come to school seeking support, love, and stability.
