Where do you like to read? You have options. Depending on the environment, we usually select the most comfortable seating area or the area that will best meet our needs for the specific task. But what if that doesn't exist, and instead, you are forced to sit into a crammed work space with no freedom to move your legs or arms.
This project enhances the learning environment by providing students with seating options to read independently and collaborate with others. Students will be provided a wide variety of seating options like stools, bean bag chairs, comfy pillows, and even warm lighting. During independent reading or group collaboration, students will have the option to sit in a space that is conducive to their project and learning. For example, during independent reading, students could sit alone in bean bag chair, sprawled out, and move it into a location in which they could focus adequately. The additional comfort will not only encourage productivity and well-being, but also allow students to understand themselves and advocate for their learning needs.
Currently, a majority of the furniture items that allowed flexible seating to be accessible in my classroom need replacement. I was able to purchase three, basic lawn chairs with my personal finances and a few smaller items second-hand, but I am not financially able to "go the distance" to make this dream a reality for my students. I need your help.
