After 14 years of teaching high school theatre, I’m ready for this crucial next step in my educational journey! I believe that National Board Certification in the area of Career/Technical Education: Information Systems and Technology, Communications, and the Arts will allow me hone my skills as a teacher and find innovative new ways of preparing students for a career in communication and performing arts.
Once completed, I hope to further increase student achievement in the area of performing arts by strengthening my content knowledge, exploring new ways to engage my students, and expanding my connections with professional learning communities. Someone recently described the National Board Certification process to me as "the best and hardest professional development you'll ever experience!" The National Research Council study shows that students taught by National Board Certified Teachers make higher gains on achievement tests than those taught by teachers who are not board certified. Despite the challenge, I feel that this will greatly enhance my teaching abilities and positively impact my theatre students at Baker High School for years to come.
