As a teacher in special education, it is important to provide my students with equity and equal access to learning. Though my students disabilities range, what doesn't is the culture & structure that is provided to my students.
In my classroom, you'll find pictures of my students - everywhere. You'll find several options for flexible seating. You'll see a community table at the center of my class, because this is where we have our morning & end of day meetings. You'll find a library, w/ a variety of book selections because reading is very important.
At times, you will not hear anything, but the calming music & the smell of my essential oils diffuser. Though silent at times, my students are always engaged in instruction, collaboration and are provided rigor in their learning.
This is because, I don't see my students as individuals with a disability; rather they just have different abilities.
