Students will be able to read relatable stories about three kids who look like them. The stories tell of hardship, overcoming difficulties, and learning how to adapt to a new life. Students will use this text, the Refugee, to gain ELA skills, connect to Global and US History, and make connections with current world events.
When students get to read engaging stories of high interest to them, they are more engaged and prepared to learn necessary college and career readiness skills.
Activities that will accompany this text will prepare our students to be world citizens, conscious and compassionate humans, as well as active readers and strong writers.
