My students attend a school that is 100% free lunch, urban, military-affiliated, and that operates on the assumption that at least 50% of them do not have access to reliable internet once they leave school. In addition, my students are English language learners and they are at a disadvantage in receiving quality resources, in which, their native English speaking classmates receive. My students are not given all of the resources offered and therefore a huge need arises that can not be fulfilled by the school district in which they attend. The English language learners are not fairly valued. With these computers that I'm requesting, my students will be able to access various technology programs in my ESL classroom that they would not otherwise be able to access. These computers will give them the opportunity to conduct research, work on phonemic awareness, and work on various other programs and projects. My students come from a wide range of backgrounds and language proficiencies, so these computers will also give them the individualized instruction that they desperately need to help them be successful. It is up to the kind hearts of this community to help them receive the same opportunities as their classmates in making it through the American education system.
