So many of our students speak different languages at home, come from new immigrant families or are from hard-working middle class families that appreciate best efforts. About half of our population receives free or reduced lunch. Through our communal passion for learning and commitment to individualized instruction, we continue to be one of the highest performing schools in the city. But more than that, as a school librarian, I get to know each and every one of the children, and they are kind, interesting, hysterically funny, voracious readers and open-minded people who love to be a part of a circle of friendship. Our school is "old-school" in the nicest way; we learn from each other, and diversity, inclusiveness and good spirit is highly valued along with academic achievement.
