I work at a Title One, 95.6% low income school in Chicago Public Schools. Many of my students come to my classroom with no literacy skills or exposure to a high quality education. Our student body is 64.1% African American, 23.0% Hispanic, and 4.6% Asian. Our students come from many different languages and dialects - 32.4% of students are classified as "limited English". Our school provides a very safe and nurturing learning environment for our students, but is always in need of supplies. Many of the students show up to school on the first day without a single school supply. Fortunately, what they lack in supplies they make up for with enthusiasm, hard-work, and determination. Through this grant, I hope to receive supplies to help provide my students with the instruction they deserve!
