I am requesting books from the "You Wouldn't Want to Be" series because I have seen them in action in other 5th grade classrooms within our district. Although our history textbooks are rich with information, they can also be on the dry side, which turns off many of our students. The books in this series teach the same standards in a fun, exciting and colorful way. A traditional textbook can be daunting to some of my lower readers; something that is styled after a comic book is more appealing and approachable for all students. My number one goal as a teacher is to ensure all students are learning. Secondly, I would like my students to enjoy and have fun learning. I am hoping this project will help my students find joy in conducting research, asking questions and learning about history. This passion will benefit my students throughout their time in school and hopefully beyond.
