Approximately 100 students (including students with disabilities and gifted) will benefit from using the 3-D printer since I am the only math teacher for the entire grade level. The printer will invigorate learning and teaching by building mathematics skills in disciplines such as STEM, Geometry, Algebra, and General Math concepts. The printer will enable students to develop a more positive attitude towards math and cultivate a growth mindset. It will also promotes 21st Century Skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, perseverance and logical thinking through STEM/STEAM content and teaching using an authentic learning experience with the ultimate goal of building student confidence and increasing student performance on geometry standards. Geometry standards are an area of weakness for our students and a need for hands on activities is desperately needed to develop critical skills and spatial reasoning. It is difficult for middle school students to visualize and understand nets of 3D figures, symmetry, and congruence of shapes at this grade level. I feel this 3-D printer is vital in order to strengthen and develop geometric skills, generate a growth mindset, and improve test scores in this area.
