My middle-school students live in a happy medium between the somewhat naive elementary age and the too-cool high school attitude. These years are a turning point in their lives where they decide who they want to be. My scholars are a fascinating blend of curious, silly, and insightful. They fill my classroom with questions, laughter, and thoughtful ideas every day.
With almost 38% of students eating free or reduced lunch and many coming from unstable family and housing situations, I strive to make my classroom a safe and comfortable getaway for my wonderful learners. As a school in a first-ring suburb, we are fortunate enough to have an increasingly diverse student population, with over 40% students of color and many hard-working scholars who commute to us from the cities. My daily mission is to create an environment where all students feel welcome and successful.
