My students enjoy many different activities every day which include learning through collaborative discussion. Students need a space where they can gather and work together in a safe and healthy environment. The carpet would be a great place. It should be welcoming, brightly colored, and comfortable. This alternative work space will encourage students to collaborate more freely and effectively. Students will engage in explicit learning lessons and activities in all curriculum areas on the carpet. Offering this designated space is essential for learning to work together.
Carpet activities help build a strong and caring classroom community. Participating in activities together as a class helps build relationships, problem-solving, and a sense of trust and togetherness among peers. My students are noticeably more engaged during collaborative activities. They would welcome the change in seating.
