I teach in a 100% immigrant school, where all of my students are English Language learners. My physics class caters to students who arrived anywhere from 5 months prior, up to a week before stepping into my classroom. My CS class is for 10th graders, the majority who are still classified as English Learners.
Physics and CS are considered by many people to be two of the hardest subjects, even for native English speaking adults. My students are learning these subjects in their second language. And they are doing great. But we always need help. I can not make up for the experiences they haven't had in their home countries. Their peers in suburban schools start off way ahead.
Every donation to my class helps level the playing field as much as I can. I want these kids to have every opportunity I can give them, because my students have the drive, they just need the chance to prove themselves.
