The goal of my project is to add current, engaging, and inclusive nonfiction books to our classroom library. Research shows that providing access to informational texts in elementary school promotes students' success by building their academic vocabulary, expanding their background knowledge of the world and important figures in history, and helping them develop critical thinking skills. The beauty of nonfiction books is that they create a sense of wonder in students. They inspire curiosity and the motivation to learn. I want to give my students' imaginations and dreams rich fodder by providing biographies and gorgeously illustrated picture books about world leaders, American heroes, artists, composers, writers, inventors, scientists, and so much more. I will read some aloud to the whole class, while other books will be used for independent reading and student projects.
