I teach a group of thirty 5th grade students who are inspired by the community they live in, and enjoy reading about, and making connections to other children their age from different cultures. Our school predominantly serves students and families that are socio-economically disadvantaged, and are learning English as a second language. They take pride in their neighborhood and treasure their culture and bilingualism. A large percentage of my students come from a single-parent home. After school programs are provided to the students. This ensures academic progress for kids, and assists our families with child care, giving them the opportunity to hold a job. Our school is located in California, we opened our doors in 1914, and soon we will be celebrating our centennial in 2014! We provide classes for preschoolers through 6th Grade. We currently have approximately 800 students enrolled.
