I started a new position as a Special Education Inclusion teacher in an elementary school in Illinois. My students are PreKindergarten through Kindergarten students with special needs. My students are amazing and have huge smiles and warm hearts.
According to the 2011 school report card, my school consists of 517 students. The students range of racial and ethnic backgrounds are: White 1.0%, Black 37.9%, Hispanic 55.3%, Multi and racial/Ethnic 5.8%. The Low Income Rate is 79.5% and the Limited English Proficient Rate is 27.1%.
My school did not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) this year and has been identified for School Improvement. Although my school did not make AYP, I will continue to work hard at closing the achievement gap for my students.
