My students are enthusiastic readers in grades 5-8 who are in desperate need of some comfortable spaces to read and enjoy the Instructional Media Center (IMC) to match their enthusiasm for the time they spend in the space. Currently, the IMC has no space for reading circles, or for independent reading. We need a space that puts students first and has the same joyful feeling they bring them to the IMC when they visit and buzz about the amazing books in their hands. I am looking to add some soft seating that is flexible and mobile. I would also like to add some colorful rugs and softer lighting to make the space more comfortable. We are in a tremendously crowded building, and the IMC is an ideal place for students to visit when the classroom is less peaceful than reading demands. My student advisory group will take lead by choosing some options, and the entire school will participate in a final vote to update our IMC!
