I would love to be able to provide a warm comfortable reading corner that can help my students relax and dive into a good book. I want to encourage and motivate my students to explore new books and tackle new challenges with reading!
Reading makes a difference in every child's life.
As a low income school, a lot of the students do not have their own little nook or space to read and be comfortable. Maybe they struggle with something at home, books are ALWAYS a great way to overcome obstacles!
I really want to be able to encourage them to just sit back, relax, and read a book! Sitting in desks can be BORING, but a bean bag chair on a fun carpet? Now that's awesome!
I want to set up bean bag chairs on a nice rug with a book shelf for the students. We do a lot of center activities as well as DEAR (Drop everything and read) I thought how fun it would be for each day a group of kids that have been extra special that day get to go to the reading nook and do their reading in bean bag chairs! I also have a very small amount of books which is why I have selected more books to add to the class library. Our 5th grade theme for the year is Harry Potter! So I definitely had to put the Harry Potter series on the list! In addition, I have chosen literacy games. As a newer teacher, I do not have any of those types of games to do with students.
Helping my incoming students with this project would make a huge difference in all of our lives and would be beyond greatly appreciated!
