Imagine going to school and not having the social emotional skills necessary to be successful. "I can't" soon becomes "I won't" while student engagement decreases.
As a school counselor I have the ability to equip students with the skills they need in order to be successful in school, at home, and in their personal lives - what I need are resources. Please, help me gather resources for my students to not only help them become successful in school, but in life.
Gift Card - The Teacher's Pay Teachers' gift card will pay for small group curriculum that will be used to help students coping, anger management, self-regulation, and organizational/study skills. I plan to conduct a weekly small group rotation with students who need support with the areas previously listed. This group will provide students with the support necessary to work through these things.
Books - The books and workbooks will be used to teach social and emotional learning skills in individual, small group, and whole group settings. My current library is lacking in diversity and I would like to include books that help foster a sense of inclusiveness for my students. I would also like to include books about learning from home and masks, as those are new topics for my students. I plan to use these books as a read-aloud series that I can share virtually with my students who are in-person and online.
Others - Overhead lighting is a known distractor for many students. The light diffuser covers allow the bright light to be filtered, creating a calmer, less stimulating environment that enhances student learning. A sound/light machine is used to create an environment of peace and tranquility.
I appreciate your partnership in making social and emotional learning inclusive for my students.
