Family! That's the first word I use with my students on the first day of school and the last word I say to them on the last day of school.
My students attend a small, rural school. It is located in a high poverty area. All of my students receive free breakfast, lunch, and snack. Even with these challenges, my students are always eager to learn. For many of them, they come to school to feel safe, have close relationships with peers and adults, and to feel loved.
Reading is not always exciting, but I try to instill the love of exploring a book no matter the genre in my students' lives!
