My scholars live in a low income urban community, and many of their parents do not have the resources to promote their academic growth. Students constantly ask for pencils to borrow to complete their homework assignments and for books to read over the weekend. Due to these limited resources, many of my students entered third grade performing below grade level standards. Despite these obstacles, my students enter the classroom every day so eager to learn challenging math and science concepts. The ability to experience self-discovery and control over your learning is a powerful tool that I do not want my scholars to miss. Although my students come from low-income communities, I believe that their classroom should be just as enriching and stimulating as their high-income peers.
