My 48 second grade bilingual students smile all day long. They enjoy reading and writing, love being at the school – and that makes a big difference in their low income suburb where our school is located. Our school also makes a huge difference in their lives if my students continue working the way they do now.
My students write a lot: they write in their journals, poetry, letters, thank you notes, birthday cards, shopping lists, they draw landscapes, faces, rooms, houses, pets, characters from books....and they need pencils ready whenever they write. Having pencils ready make them work faster as they can put their ideas on paper. Sharpening the pencils in the old way waste my students time and we all want to change this.
