Who wants to go to see the Louvre in Paris? How about a trip to the Galapagos Islands to watch the turtles migrate? Let's check out the Pyramids of Giza! While these would be amazing field trips to take my students on, the reality is, I can't purchase the airline tickets. (Their families might miss them too!) Instead, I'd like to bring these places to my students using an iPad in the classroom.
Through your generous donation, my students will be able to "travel" weekly to wonders of the world, becoming globally conscious citizens. Using the iPad will allow for weekly virtual field trips to foreign lands near and far. I envision setting up a travel station where students can access the iPad during independent work time. The iPad will have various apps loaded that allow for "travel" to a predetermined spot on the earth. They will be guided by questions which will help them navigate through this experience. By exposing students to the world outside of their smaller home community, I believe we are encouraging life-long learning, as well as teaching our future leaders about the importance of the interconnections we all share.
