The selected books and supplies will be beneficial to our class library. This is only my second year teaching and therefore, I am trying to build a library that will entice and motivate my students to read more. I have selected books from a variety of genres (historical fiction, realistic fiction, poetry, mystery, science fiction) for my students. Reading is the foundation to all learning and I have carefully selected these books based on my students' interest levels and reading levels. Our class is one of the first few in the school district to implement the units of study for teaching reading which is a curriculum developed by Teacher's college, Columbia University. I plan on using these resources to encourage students to read closely and think deeply about the stories. By doing so, I want them to learn empathy, strengthen and improve their character and think out the box.
