Our district has a strong focus on authentic learning, resilience, and emerging innovation. Through the use of a 3D scanner, students will be able to design products that solve real-world problems, scan them, and then bring them to life by printing them on our library's 3D printer. Students will be able to design a product that solves an authentic problem using everyday materials like paper or recycled materials. Once the prototype is scanned by the 3D scanner, students will be able to 3D print their creations and produce an actual product that can be used for its intended purpose.
A 3D scanner will offer my students a real opportunity to be the emerging innovators they strive to be by allowing them to physically create and test their original creations. Through the innovation process, students will learn first-hand how to design, create, test, revise, and complete a project. The 3D scanner is an imperative part of the innovation process and will make it possible for my students to be 21st-century makers.
