I use flexible grouping in my classroom to provide needed movement for kids with a lot of energy. Students with a lot of energy often end up looking for a reason to get out of theirs seats. This is a distraction to themselves, as well as their classmates and can be a huge time-waster. Having these seats would give my students an alternative to an inflexible plastic chair, and create the desired ability to move. The ability to bounce in the yoga ball chairs gives the kids an outlet for their pent up energy while keeping them seated. The monotony of the movement will allow them to remain focused and more able to complete tasks. Have one chair for each student grouping (I have 6 table groups) will also allow me to give all of my students a chance to try out the alternative seating. My goal is to have students who are able to focus their energy and have more effective seat-work time.
