My second graders are beginning to settle in as students, but still need to get their big emotions and kid wiggles out! The sensory bottles and squeeze balls will go into a peace corner where students needing a moment of peace can take a five-minute break before rejoining the class ready to focus and learn. Students need the chance to take a mental break, just like adults, and these bottles give them a chance to focus their attention on something else before jumping back into learning.
The Kick-bands and wiggle cushions will increase the seating options in my room that allow students to both wiggle and work. Right now my students are learning to focus for longer and longer periods of time as they grow their skills as readers, writers, and mathematicians. These seating options will help them learn to focus because they let students wiggle while also staying in their seats!
